The NWH Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program begins with a series of assessments by our medical specialists to evaluate your current physical and nutritional health. This information enables our team to customize a fitness and nutrition program that matches a your specific needs.

You will participate in a 12-week exercise program consisting of three 1-hour sessions per week. Additional sessions may include nutritional and stress management counseling. Throughout the program, you are closely monitored and evaluated to ensure a safe and effective exercise progression. The last session will include a re-evaluation component to measure the progress you made throughout the program.

Once the initial program objectives are met, we will provide you with a maintenance exercise program that helps you continue your physical activity independently at home or at the exercise facility you choose. You will be invited back for periodic evaluations of your progress. Your program is modified as you improve and periodic reports are made available to your physician, so he or she can monitor your progress.

The Balance Program

The Balance Program at Northern Westchester Hospital is staffed by medical experts that conduct comprehensive evaluations to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of vertigo, unsteadiness and other serious balance disorders. Three key technologies utilized in our diagnostic testing approach include:

  • Computerized Dynamic Posturography
  • Rotational Chair
  • Video/Electronystagmography

The comprehensive testing performed by the multidisciplinary Balance Program medical experts provides information that enables our team to distinguish between peripheral vestibular and central disease, postural control problems, as well as allow for differential diagnosis of common peripheral vestibular disease. Rehabilitation for balance issues, vertigo, and unsteadiness is performed by our on-site rehabilitation staff.

The Balance Center is under the medical direction of a physician who is board certified in Otolaryngology with additional training in Otology, Neurotology and skull-based surgery. This same specialty also offers advances such as Cochlear Implants to help the hearing impaired, including young children, which is offered at Northern Westchester Hospital.

Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Program

Each year, millions of people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds related to various conditions including diabetes and obesity, poor circulation, and compromised immune systems that lead to infections. When standard care fails, the patient’s physician increasingly relies on the healing effects of specialized wound care management.

To treat patients suffering from these health concerns, Northern Westchester Hospital provides a comprehensive Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Program in a comfortable outpatient setting. A skilled team of board certified nurses and technologists work with our wound care physicians to provide state-of-the-art wound healing services in a patient-centered environment that is close to home. This program is overseen by the Medical Director of Internal and Pulmonary Medicine and Wound Care.

Your treatment will begin with a comprehensive review of your condition, including underlying medical issues, medical history, and overall diet and nutrition. Through this assessment, other issues contributing to your condition are identified, such as diabetes, peripheral vascular circulation issues and dietary habits. This information enables wound care experts to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the potential causes for your condition, thereby enabling them to develop a treatment program that better suits your individual needs.
