The Running Analysis is an individually designed program that looks at your running from head to toe, developing a personalized report for you– including tips to get the most out of your run, while avoiding injuries and complications. Whether you’re an ultra-marathoner or just beginning to train for a 5-K, the analysis at the Running Clinic is tailored to fit your specific needs.
Everyone that runs or wants to run can benefit from a running analysis.
A series of rests and measurements are performed to identify areas that are strong, weak, flexible and/or tight that may be limiting your running efficiency and contributing to injury. A thorough foot and ankle assessment is also performed at the Running Clinic to confirm that your running shoes are correct for you and if necessary, advice on orthotics.
Orthopedic specialists at NWH perform functional testing to get a complete picture of how you move. The specialists are able to locate asymmetries and imbalances that could cause running injuries. Based on the results of this testing, specific motor planning drills may be recommended.
NWH orthopedic specialists, at the Running Clinic, use 2-D software by Dartfish™ to record a high definition video, which analyzes your running form from a variety of different angles. This allows specialists to identify the presence of less functional joints which may cause pain or running inefficiency. Improved mechanics decreases the potential for injury and also improves performance.
Following the running analysis, an individualized report, details your deficits, areas for improvement, results and clinical recommendations. The report includes the following:
- Detailed assessment of the running analysis, functional testing as well as musculoskeletal assessment
- Images with a customized analysis of factors affecting how you, specifically, run and move
- Exercise recommendations
- Shoe and/or orthotic recommendation
- Race programming suggestions
AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill
The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill® allows athletes to get back to running after injury in a safe and controlled environment. The AlterG® unloads the runner, allowing them to take off up to 80% of their bodyweight as they complete their cardiovascular activity. Because of the decreased impact while running, the AlterG® can be used as an adjunct during endurance training to help decrease the risk for injury and also help transition athletes back to full activity after injury.
