People with lymphedema can be treated effectively through a comprehensive, integrated program at NWH Rehabilitation Services at Chappaqua Crossing. Developed in collaboration with your physician and the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Program at NWH, the Lymphedema Treatment Program at NWH addresses complications following a:
- lymph node dissection
- breast reconstruction
A comprehensive lymphedema treatment evaluation is completed by our NWH physical therapists. These therapists are also specially trained in the treatment of individuals with breast cancer. A treatment plan is developed to meet each patient's specific needs. Lymphedema treatment is covered by Medicare and major insurers. A referral from a physician is necessary.
Personalized lymphedema treatment sessions focus on:
- Developing flexibility
- Strengthening and conditioning
- Pain management
- Management of post-surgical swelling and lymphedema
- Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage
- Compression Wrapping

Patients find the Lymphedema Program and activities reduce pain, improve range of motion, increase their energy level, strength and endurance, and even increase their confidence.
