Pulmonary Function Test
(The Breathing Test)
Assessing Your Condition
The NWH Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program begins with a series of assessments by our medical specialists to evaluate your current physical and nutritional health. This information enables our team to customize a fitness and nutrition program that matches your specific needs.
Pulmonary Function Tests (breathing tests) are used to diagnose the cause and severity of breathing disorders.

Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) are used to diagnose the cause and severity of breathing disorders. PFTs help the doctor evaluate conditions such as shortness of breath, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma and emphysema. These tests may also be used to determine whether specific therapy (for example bronchodialators) will be helpful in treating your lung condition.
Pulmonary Function Tests include:
- Arterial Blood Gas Testing
- Pulse Oximetry
- Spirometry (pre and post Bronchodiolator)
- Diffusion Capacity Testing
- Lung Volume Measurement
- Airway Resistance
